building the open web one bit at a time

Back home blogging – at the end of June 2012

Here’s a response I wrote to Craig Settles – based upon his notion of Kansas City government OWNING their broadband infrastructure.

The recession is going to get worse and worse. This is why Digital City Mechanics is focused on creating a system to create jobs.  This is going to be a whole new category of effort – combining altruistic and for-profit – breaking down silos and ACTUALLY creating jobs – on a sustainable basis.  Marc my words.

Lots of talk of working together in KC – now we get to see if they’ll fund some of the ideas in their “playbook”. I certainly wouldn’t go to an event with execs from Sprint of H&R Block talking about innovation!  I love the idea of these folks THINKING about innovation and digital economy ecosystems – now we get to see if they’ll actually pay for anything!

Ton Zijlstra gave an excellent keynote in Trieste on Open Data.

Meanwhile Google has released their research on broadband and Internet usage in KC. They collected the facts – and have figured out that using the net – is important to the people of Kansas City. OK – so now what?

Cisco is starting to figure out its all about the software – and connecting things together

WAIT!  Big company screwing developer? Tell me it isn’t TRUE!

$20,000 for 7%.  Hmmmmm. This ‘socially conscious/impact’ accelerator business is turning into a bubble.

  1. Hi Marc, it was great to see you again, and in beautiful Trieste at that!

  2. Nice post Marc and a right good rant. I know the post had a series side but I did find it humorous too!
